while not our most favorite selena flick of all time, we will say it is just as entertaining to watch as the others. took a while for our minds to wrap around the new faces, since we all know who this generation likens selena too the most but once over that hurdle, most of the story stays the same.
we see selena from childhood, with her siblings, and we also see that their upbringing was more like many others, fights feuds and disagreements..we can't help but to compare this one to the previous, so the truth is, this one gives a bit more detail & in depth look at just how persistent, the father was in rearing the kids to perform. it shows us how eager selena was to get it right & how hopeful she was even as a child to get people to like her & the band.
though we will say, if you have seen the most popular film, then you have seen this, we can also add, that each actor & actress does such a good job transforming into their respective characters that they make it easy to forget we are watching new faces. which is a great thing! why? because you don't want to be worse than the film that made everyone re fall into love with the mexican singer selenas. so its good that the worst thing about this film is that it feels like we know the story and are just watching it again more in depth.
the best things about the film? the costumes, the hair and the tone of madison taylor baez, a young star in the making who matched the mannerisms down to a t. and good facials from serratos who plays as selenas older version.
with all considerations, for entertainment & accuracy, we give this a 7/8 out of 10 stars. we think it is great for the younger generation to buy into who selenas Quintanilla was through this. some slower moments for sure but that is due to stretching out the story with more mundane details, for a tv format. can be found on netflix, we say, yes to watching this show!
well wishes to that family, may they have their peace restored.
