this town is known for historic events that have misformed the perspective & outlook of the town! we are here to put the past rhetoric of misfortune to rest & turn this tired town into the bustling vibrant place it is suppose to be. now even though that won’t be an easy task, it seems that a few town spots are up for the challenge! Not because they are into the politics behind it, but because they genuinely care about either adding culture, versatility or impeccable ambiance to their neighborhoods. each spot has women very much part of the company which is helped ran & maintained by the women of the household. (guys we didn’t forget yall overly sensitive selves lol jk but in the spirit of Mother’s Day being in may you get it ) one thing about johnstown, is that it is filled with the ladies & is growing into a tribe of women getting their way in business.
In no particular order, we list & curate some unforgettable places, everyone should try while in this town, even if only once.
in the spirit of motherhood, we will focus on the ladies who run the business in each establishment, everyone is pleasant & gives great customer service.

first on our list because they just had their ribbon cutting! is VIDA VERDE !!!
small but light at heart, it was our first time having vegan tuna & it didn’t disappoint. in fact, we have since had all their tuna options & we enjoy it just as much each time. with the family coming in from the Bronx & the wife being an easy spirited person, the detail to how you would like the order is worth any other hassle or frustration. can’t wait until they start delivering it. spot is ran by Marisol Hernandez who has helped keep a great space!

next up! DOMINICAN GARDEN CAFE! this gives the added zest that the downtown area desperately needed! if you love your health but don’t want to feel as though you are missing out on taste or the fulfilling heartiness of the good eats, this place is for you. with a sit down area that allows guest to play games, or watch tv, this is the perfect place to pass time! this venue is ran by Lisa Lopez!! adding a sophisticated touch

we have, ROOTS! though roots is a juicing bar, it has become the go to town staple of healthy morning shots! want a quick pick me up? need a snickers moment without the ‘betes! this place is the quintessential spot for what it means to be raw organic & refreshingly fruity in its options. new to the smoothie life or açaí bowl, then this is the place you want to go to have your first go at it. we like the ginger shots & the pineapple drinks! the porpotioned sizes are hefty & the place naturally attracts vitality! employing several young ladies at any given time that you can find at the front to help you …

then there is smart treats! deserts and a flavorful palette for those who are looking for the fun stuff! tucked away but every bit of prominent & important.

last but definitely not least, we have the 36NYNELLC holistic camp warehouse we you can get all your holistic hygienic needs! think vitamins, supplements, tooth face body hair skin & nails all from there! WE FELL IN LOVE WITH IT IMMEDIATELY!!! As soon as you walk in, it smells like a shower of good stuff, not too earthy not too sweet & ofcourse their incense are on sale too. a true family company, the ladies bring their ability to set design into play that makes you feel like you have walked into a garden of Eden. It does help that both the owners are musical artist and local celeb status as well, because the grace grown into the artistry has seeped into the business! we salute this establishment for setting themselves apart & standing their ground on their beliefs. they do it well & handle each order with care & concern. this is ran by @444mck an alternative artist !
honorable mention(s):
peking place chinese food that offers great tofu (fried and otherwise) options for a vegan palette!
the balance restaurant: we have tried everything we could here that allows us to stay on a healthy vegan path, and not one thing did us wrong. the hummus was hearty & flavorful and the guacamole was thick and fresh..the pita chips warm and the welcome friendly! we will say the wait was a bit long but the environment was spacious enough, clean enough & smelled good enough to be worth it. they really are the balance between the hearty meals and the light & fresh meals.
the write cup: though a coffee shop, the location offers a few vegetarian or (made into vegetarian) options that taste like they are made with love! try their panini with pesto mozzarella tomato sauce. downstairs from the craftworks studio near gazebo gallery but moving to westmont goucher
chill and brew here
osaka asian cuisine: if thai is a cuisine you have been craving, then the best place to go is to Osaka. in one of the food malls, there is always a vibrancy that reminds anyone of the hustle and bustle culture that comes opposite of the town.
ps:
artist richard falvo has some great baking classes he offers at craftworks once a month usually on a Saturday
